A Step-By-Step Directory For Teaching Your Golden Retriever

Golden Retrievers are one of the most popular choices for a family pet and there’s a good reason for that. Goldens are a good-tempered and playful breed, they are an especially good choice for families with small children. Golden retriever training is worth your time and effort because these dogs want to please and are intelligent enough to learn. But that still doesn’t mean that training a Golden is going to be a walk in the park, there may be some bumps along the way. I am going to give you some suggestions here for training your young golden retriever so he will grow into a well-behaved dog that will be a source of pride and joy to the whole family.

Domestication: Proper Potty Etiquette

Showing your pup the correct place to use the bathroom is one of the first tasks in Golden retriever training. By expertly using a crate, most dogs can be trained to go to the bathroom outside. A crate is a constructive apparatus that helps your dog learn to only use the bathroom outside, and gives the puppy a secure, serene spot for sleeping. Most dogs won’t do their business in the same place that they sleep, so by keeping your puppy in a crate at night he will learn not to go to the bathroom inside the house. Reinforce the Golden retriever training by giving your puppy abundant praise once he’s gone to the bathroom where he is supposed to do so.

Inappropriate Chewing and Biting

Just because a dog explores its world by using its mouth, doesn’t mean it is okay for the animal to do so when interacting with its owners. Golden retriever training teaches your pet that it can’t “mouth” or nibble any human while playing. Golden Retrievers especially like to chew, and they don’t care if its their favorite tennis ball or your favorite pair of loafers. This tendency to chew is only worsened when dogs are left alone for long periods of time or aren’t paid attention by their owners. By giving your dog a plethora of chew toys, you can stop this issue before it becomes a problem. Also be sure to correct him promptly if he starts to chew on furniture or shoes so he understands that that is inappropriate behavior.

A Golden Retriever may be one of the easier breeds to train, but you still need to devote a lot of time, effort and overall: patience. Even though your golden retriever is bright and will try his best to please you, his attention span is limited by his elevated level of energy. The best recourse is to use short training sessions filled with praise and rewards. Your compensation for your hard work and perseverance will be a pet that is well-behaved and obedient and a cause of satisfaction and pleasure for the entire family.
