Dogs are the best friends and protectors of humans. The quality of humans life was greatly influenced by these animals. Dogs have offered humans comfort and affection. Because dogs are highly attuned to the emotions of humans, they have offered their silent support to sad and troubled master. Dogs are noted to be tough little and not so little guys that are always ready to comfort and defend the master but there are cases when these animals are the ones needing the comfort of their master. Pet owners have to learn how to calm a dog as these animals get stressed too.
Some dogs would easily get stressed with different situation in the environment. A dog exposed to a stressful situation may frantically bark, salivate excessively, tremble or whine pitifully. Other dogs would react to a stressful environment in a different way. The dog can be highly active and hard to control. New situations, unfamiliar faces and places as well as loud noises like the sound of rolling thunder and firecrackers would make a dog nervous.
Repeated exposure to these kind of situations will enhance the nervousness of the dog until it develops into a phobia. As such it would not be impossible for the pet’s quality of life to be affected. No dog owner would want to see a pet trembling in fear and no owner would want to constantly calm the pet. Owners have to find ways to calm the pet.
To prevent the dog from being stressed it would be best to know what activities or situations trigger a nervous “attack” so that the situation can be avoided. As situations that creates nervous tension in dogs cannot be avoided at all times, a pet parent has to find other ways to calm the pet.
Dogs are affectionate animals that enjoy being petted. Because dogs enjoy being petted; massaging the pet would be an effective calming method. Take away the nervous tension of the pet by running the hand in circular motion from the head to the rear end. Dogs are food motivated and frozen Kong toys are proven effective in distracting the dog’s attention from stress causing situations. Our four legged friends are very energetic animals. To calm the pet, an owner must ensure that the dog is given sufficient opportunities to exercise as tired dog are calm dogs. Are you aware that a dog can be calmed simply by yawning? Dogs are calmed if humans are seen yawning.
