Sasha ran into my sight immediately when I arrived at the ‘feeding area’, unlike most other homeless cats here who were very afraid of strangers, Sasha almost acted like he was ‘begging’ me to pet him, and he even jumped onto my thighs when I sat down to put cat food and water into those bowls.
I met my first cat, Sasha in early 2009, it was a cold windy afternoon when I was on my way to check if there’s enough food and water for those homeless cats in our neighborhood. I had never seen a homeless cat looked similar to Sasha in this area before, so I guessed he might be a wandering through the neighborhood to look for food, and if possible, a new owner.

I didn’t plan to adopt a homeless cat at that moment at all since my mom was not a cat person – she likes pets, but doesn’t want to have one at home. But when I was on my way home, Sasha followed me all the way as if he didn’t want to lose this chance, and later when I opened the front door of our apartment’s, Sasha ran into the building nearly without any hesitation. I gave mom a call, asking her if we could let Sasha stay. I was not expecting a ‘yes’ actually, but to my surprise, mom said that at once – maybe Sasha was really meant to be our cat!

However, this cute angel disappeared in a morning 4 months later, he ran away through the window in our kitchen. We kept on searching for him for months but couldn’t even get a clue. It was definitely heartbreaking to me and until now I still miss this cat I used to call him ‘my son’, and I feel terribly sorry to him that I’m not able to protect him for his while life. I wish Sasha has found a new and kindhearted owner to give him another warm and safe family.

Two months after Sasha’s missing, mom’s friend gave us a call from a resort located in the countryside, and told us she’s sending us a new kitten. She found this kitten around the kitchen of the resort when she was vocationing there, there were a group of homeless cats and kittens in the resort, the staffs were nice to them but they also hoped their guests could find reliable owners for those poor creatures.

The new kitten was a girl, I named her with ‘Masha’ as I still missed my beloved Sasha. Masha was about 2 months old when she joined us, much different with Sasha, she was totally an over-energetic kid, she simply knew everything about how to make a mess in the house. It took me a long time to get used to this naughty country girl, but luckily, she turned to be a lady bit by bit as she’s grown up, and we ‘arranged’ the first ever date for her in the early 2010. The groom is a 2yo male cat of our neighbor’s. The date went on well(it seemed so), however we were not sure if Masha was pregnant.

7 days after Masha’s date, we moved to a new apartment near to our old neighborhood. At the very next day when we went back to the old house to collect our last stuffs, I found a kitten hidden in a wooden box in the garden in front of our building. That wooden box was completely abandon and despite we have many homeless cats here, I had never seen any of them staying in the box, hence I thought that kitten must be very frightened and had nowhere to hide.

That tiny kitten ran over at once when she saw me approaching the box, the ground was still covered by thick snow, and when I held this kitten in my arms, she simply could stop shaking due to cold. That condition was very much similar to how I met Sasha, so I asked my parents if we could let this kitten stay as well, since we’ve moved to the new apartment with a larger living room, we were capable of having more than one cat at home. Dad and mom were still immerged in the joys of moving to new house, so they approved immediately! lol They were not sure if Masha’s pregnant, so if she’s not, it would be nice to bring her a new friend to spend their rest lifetimes together.

The new kitten was also a girl, I named her ‘Julia’ because its pronunciation is similar with ‘pearl’ in Chinese. She was quite nervous at first when meeting Masha, although the old-sister was very friendly to her. However, after about one week getting along with each other, these two girls became really close and seemed enjoying our new apartment a lot.

All cats have great energy and they love nothing more than playing with . Many pet stores, shops and online markets have of different cat toys in stock, but you do need to be mindful when you’re considering toys for your feline friend. Wild cats are hunters in their blood so chasing toys is second nature to them. The ‘curiosity killed the cat’ is the exactly description of the other nature of cats’. If you’ve left a bag or a pack near your cats you’ll know that they love nothing more to jump into it and check what’s hidden there.

Their natural curiosity and love for chasing or discovering things is very important to a cat’s development. It springs up muscles and increase your cat’s speed and antistress, it keeps them in good shapes physically and mentally, and level up their general health condition.

What is the key factor?

When you’re browsing for a toy for a cat, don’t forget that simple is more likely the best. A ball with little bells will produce weeks of joys for your cats. In recent years more and more cat toys are featured with catnip in it – catnip has an extraordinary effect on most cats to make them extremely excited and increase their movements a lot more, which is pretty good for exercising. But keep it in mind that

And the quality of toys should also be your concern, a young and healthy cat is not only good at playing, chasing and jumping, but also destroying or breaking. I have the very experience that only 1 night later the new toy I bought for my cats was spred into two parts. Hence make sure the toy can remain complete with your cat for long enough, or you’ll have to make another purchase soon.

The possible ends of not providing the best toys…

If your cat is not provided enough or the right toys, you may find out that anything laying around in your house may become the toy of your cat, or your cat change them to be. Or perhaps I should say, no matter you give them toys or not, they’ll do it at the end any way. Cats are very easy to lose their interests on one same stuff, and then anything may distract them and become their new favorite, especially those moving things like a button dropped from your coat, a flying bug, a paper clip blowing up and down by wind, the pendulum in your living room, the baseball showing on your TV screen, or as mentioned above, a closed or folded bag or cardboard box.

But if they make a mess in your house, don’t be mad at them, because this is their born nature, and people love animals just because those little creatures have different looks and behaviors combined with their cutenesses. If you love your cat, love its nature too.

So, you’ve decided that you want to get a pet cat. However, before you shop for your feline , you may need to consider a few crucial things. After all, finding out that a cat is not for you
after you’ve already grown attached can be heart breaking.

5 Critical Considerations

1. Is your home conducive for keeping a cat ?

Take a look your home and see it can accommodate your furry friend comfortably. A pet is a living creature and it definitely need some special space to play and move around . Felines need litter boxes, dishes for containing food, play things and a post for them to do some scratching. Have children ? Then you need to consider where to place the cat’s waste box so that your kids can’t get access to it but at the same time, your cat can.

2. One or 2 ?

Feline pets can get lonely too. Although they don’t need much attention, unlike dogs, cats do have emotions and can get bored and bad. You may want to buy two instead of one cat or kitten to keep each other company.

3. Cat allergy

If this is the first time you are going to keep a pet cat , you must be careful of allergies. Make sure and your family members aren’t allergic to cat and furs, otherwise life can be miserable for everyone.

4. Should you shop around for a kitten or a matured cat ?

Another consideration is whether you want to keep a kitten or an older feline. A kitten is an excellent choice for you if you have time to litter box train your new pet. On the other hand, a matured cat is a good choice for you if you want a slightly less energetic pet and do not have time to train a cat to use the litter box since most older older pet cats have already been trained. But note that older cats may develop joint pains so you need to look around for cat joint pain relief products later.

5. Where to get your new kitty

So you have decided to get a kitty . But where do you buy one? One good place to look is your local humane society or animal rescue which usually have lots of healthy, sweet cats and kittens. Or you may want to visit a cat show for special breeds. Many exhibitors bring along a few kittens thatare for sale too.

Note: You can get more info on kitten breeds here. Your new cat may also need cat vitamins to stay healthy too.

If you are looking to buy a feline friend, you need to think about the many different cat breeds out there. Since there so many cat & kitten breeds, this can be a daunting task. Going for the wrong breed may cause much distress to you and your family as the wrong breed may be a misfit. But selecting the right one can the missing spark you are looking for to light up your home.

So here’s 4 helpful tips to get you going.

1. Noisy or more silent cat?

Some cats can actually “meow” a lot and quite loudly too. If your home environment (and neighbors) can stand a vocal cat so go for it. If not, think twice. If you want loud, vocal cats, go for these breeds : Siamese Cat, the Korat, and the Burmese. On the quieter side, go for : The Scottish Fold, Somali, and the American Curl

2. A cuddly or aloof cat?

A cuddly cat needs you to attend to it more so if you have the time, by all means, go for this breed. The cuddly and affectionate cats are usually better with children than more reserved breeds. But if you don’t have the time, then for the reserved or aloof breed instead. Some cuddly cat breeds are : the Snowshoe, Abyssinian, Maine Coon, Ragdoll, Tonkinese, and the Himalayan Persian. More aloof and reserved breeds are the Norwegian Forest Cat, the Nebelung, and the Russian Shorthair.

3. Mischievous or self amusing?

There are some types of cat like the Sphynx, Siamese, Rex, Balinese and British Angora that may be naughtier. They are very inquisitive and energetic. Love them or hate them. If you like less volatile breeds, then avoid these.

4. Long hair or short hair?

If you don’t have a lot of time to take care of your cat, you may want to opt for a short haired cat breed because it requires less time for grooming. An adult long haired cat . although nice looking, requires a lot of attention in grooming and can take up quite a lot of your time.

Having considered all of the different features and traits for the cat breeds you like, you are now ready to start searching for your new cat. You will need to decide whether you want a kitten or if you would prefer to give an abandoned older cat a second chance.

If you are searching for a certain cat breed, check out your local cat show, since most exhibitors have a few kittens for sale. If an older cat is right for you, give your local humane society or animal rescue a call.

Other things related to cats : You may also want to know more about cat vitamins here. Later on, when you cat ages, you may also want to get some cat joint pain remedies to help her along .

If you are like most people, you may think that cats are emotionless creatures that cannot be trained at all. But that is not be the case. Although your cat seems to ignore your commands sometimes but at other times, she is not obeying you because she may not understand your instructions.

Yes, it is possible to train a feline but generally it requires a lot more time. It also takes a lot more patience to train a cat than it takes to train a dog. With the feline kind, positive encouragement and praises works better than punishment. They don’t take kindly to punishment and will just wait until you are not watching to do more mischief. So it is a lot better to ignore unwanted responses from your cat and give praise when she responds correctly. Carrots, not sticks.

When to start the training your kitty ? You should start training your feline friend when she is about 8 to 10 weeks old. However, if you have an older cat, don’t fret because it is still possible to train her. It may be a bit harder to teach her but you can still do it with patience.

You should start to train your cat by encouraging her to come to you when she is being called. In order to achieve your objectives , make very sure that you have a ready supply of your cat’s favorite snacks and that she is feeling contented and happy. Move to a quieter area if there is a lot of noise and confusion so little kitty is not agitated.

Think of one good command and be sure you use it consistently even before you start anything. Use commands that are short and easy to say, like “Hey kitty” or ‘”Come kitty”. Decided on a good command already? Now you are ready to start training your kitty. Sit or kneel on the floor and call her to you using the command you have decided on. Show her that you are excited when calling her . When she comes to you, give her a treat and praise her instantly.

Now, repeat the come command. Remember not to train your cat for longer than 10 minutes per session. If kitty starts to be feel bored or frustrated, stop the training immediately. Ideally, you should hold two or three training sessions per day for a week. When you are certain that she has really understood the meaning of the come command, you can start to teach her other commands such as “no” or “stay”.

In addition to the above, there are also many other things you should teach your cat for her own good. She should learn to stand a harness and leash on her. That is in case you need to travel long distances with her or take her to the vet. She should learn to use a crate for the same reasons.

You can teach your feline pet how to use a harness and leash by putting the harness on her first. Once it is in place, don’t restrain her in any way. Praise her and be sure to give your kitty her favorite cat snack. When she is used to the harness, attach the leash and let her lead you around the place a bit.

Then encourage your cat to follow you by offering more delicious snacks and more praises. Don’t expect your cat to actually learn to heel on the leash. However you should expect her not to panic and struggle when she is on the leash.

Here’s how to teach your kitty to use a crate. Put a nice little comfortable blanket and a favorite toy in her crate . Praise her as you place her in the crate and then leave her inside for 2 or 3 minutes before releasing her. Do not make a fuss about releasing her, instead reward her for going into the crate. Slowly extend the time you leave your cat in the crate each time, until she gets comfortable staying in her crate for more than 1 hour.

Other things related to cats : You may also want to know more about the cat & kitten breeders here. Later on, as your cat grows older, you may also want to get the cat vitamins for her. Also joint pains can be an issue. If so, you may need the cat joint pain relief products

Ticks and fleas are not large by any means, but they can still be detrimental to the health of your cat. Fleas bring tapeworms along with them and their constant blood drawing can create a state of anemia, a condition that is especially dangerous to kittens. Ticks have the well-deserved reputation for spreading Lyme disease and Rocky Mountain spotted fever. If left untreated, these tiny nuisances can become a serious problem, but there are ways of keeping your cat free from ticks and fleas.

Prevention is the best medicine when it comes to tick and flea infestations. In your yard, remove tall grass and dense brush from the property. Cats love to explore these areas, and they are ideal breeding grounds for ticks and fleas. If your cat does not have the opportunity to get into this kind of vegetation on its journeys, you will be ahead of the game. Bigger yards provide more room for roaming felines, and that should keep them happy. If you can, erect a fence so that the cat is less likely to venture off the property and come in contact with wild grass that hides ticks and fleas.

Preventive and curative medicine has come a long way, leading to a number of spot on treatments that are applied to your cat’s coat and skin. Some of these treatments have been shown to kill 98% to 100% of the ticks and fleas that have taken up residence on your cat’s body. The treatments are usually liquids that are placed between your cat’s shoulders on a monthly basis. If you follow the schedule, there is a good chance that an infestation will not even occur. If you feel as though you will forget the regimen, just mark your calendar or set a reminder on your phone. On their own, flea collars often cannot take care of a flea and tick problem, but used together with spot on treatments, they are an effective added barrier against the annoying bugs.

Sometimes, regardless of the precautions you take, ticks and fleas get through your defenses. Not only do they make your cat itch and present potential health issues, they can infest the home as well. It may not be your cat’s favorite thing in the world, but a warm bath complete with a medicated shampoo scrubbing is a highly effective treatment. Not only do certain dips and sprays do a fine job as well, but they can be used to rid your carpet and bedding of ticks and fleas too.

Being conscientious of your cat’s surroundings and using preventive methods will keep your cat free from ticks and fleas. Cut thick grass and use topical treatments. This will greatly lessen the likelihood that an infestation of unwanted parasites will occur.

It’s nice to know that technology is on our side in this capacity, and that a product like the Cat Genie has been created to reduce this one downside of having cats.

It operates much like a cat box, only that it can clean itself and flushes exactly like a commode. Once your cat is finished, liquid wastes drain through the washable granules. On top of that, your kitty’s solid waste will be scooped up and liquified before getting flushed down your toilet or drain. This makes the CatGenie 120 the most complete indoor cat waste system on the market!

Then, it sanitizes the bowl and granules with H2O and SaniSolution, a veterinarian-approved sanitizer. It scrubs and purifies the non-absorbing granules and thoroughly washes the kitty area. Additionally, it includes a built-in dryer that finishes the washing procedure by blowing hot air onto the granules. You can actually take a look at our Cat Genie Reviews to witness this process in action!

The operation functions in one of three ways: manual, automatic, or cat activated. When you run it on auto, it runs automatically as many as four times daily. To run manually, simply press the start button whenever you need to. Finally, you can easily depend upon the cat activation setting.

The system contains a one-time DIY connector to your water supply, 2 containers of the washable granules, two SaniSolution cartridges, and a set of instructions to help you out. One great benefit of the Cat Genie is that is not only saves you a small fortune in kitty litter throughout the life of your cat, but it also satisfies your cat’s need to dig and cover his or her leavings.

Furthermore, the best advantage of utilizing a Cat Genie is the truth that you can promote the role of preserving the environment. How? On a yearly basis, tons of dirty cat litter pollutes our landfills. With Cat Genie, there is positively no litter! Instead, it uses litter-like, permanent granules that never mandate changing since they’re dust-free and totally washable.

If some granules get lost, they automatically biodegrade in nine months so there’s no need to fret about your septic system.

Bringing a pet home is exciting. But, before you go out and pick up your new family member, make sure you first take the steps necessary to prepare your home. This will help you to have the best possible experience with your new pet from day one. There are several important things to consider before bringing your new dog or new cat home.

If you have other pets, the arrival of a new cat or dog can be stressful. Your animals love you and worry that the new animal will result in less attention. This can result in jealously, anger and even fighting. If you are bringing a new animal to your home and you have other pets, make certain that you prepare in advance for the situation. You want to keep the new cat or dog and the older ones separate for a little while. This can help the new pet to become accustomed to your home in a comfortable manner. Introduce the animals slowly. During the first few weeks, all interactions between the new pet and you older ones should be closely monitored. Make sure you also take the time to pay attention to your older pets. They will be more accepting of the new animal if they see that you will still pay attention to them.

In a new environment, even a housebroken animal will have accidents. If you have a new puppy or kitten, the situation will likely be even worse. Prepare for accidents in advance since you know they are bound to happen. Buy a strong cleaner. Enzyme cleaners tend to work best since they remove all traces of pet odor. Remember that your pets have a stronger sense of smell than you. Any traces of smell can result in more accidents. Also remove any expensive rugs from the floor until the new pet is fully trained.

Another important consideration is to make the new pet feel at home. Consider purchasing a bed for them so that they will have somewhere of their own to sleep. Toys and treats are another great way to welcome this new pet into your family. As the new animal gets used to its new surroundings, be patient. It may need a little alone time to feel comfortable.

Preparation will help make the arrival of a new pet successful. By taking the time to implement these simple tips, you can make your home a welcome and safe environment for your new cat or dog.

Dogs love to chew on empty water bottles. They love the noise! These can make a great an inexpensive toy for your dog. Be aware that dogs will chew up the caps and will sometimes eat them, so it is wise to remove the cap and the label before giving this bottle to your pet. Always supervise your animals while they play with toys to make sure they are safe. Some companies even make animal covers that you can put a water bottle in. This is a cute way to let your dog enjoy a fun toy.

If you have an old ball of string lying around, it can make a great toy for your bored cat. They especially love it when you play with them. Try teasing them with a string. They love it when you dangle it over their heads or let them chase after it while you run around. Take a few minutes to play with your pets and quickly develop a closer relationship.

If you really want to enjoy some hilarious antics from your pets, pull out your laser light and let the entertainment ensue. You can readily find these little laser lights at most pet stores. Both cats and dogs love chasing after the pretty red light. Be careful when playing with your animals and a laser light; don’t ever shine the light directly into anyone’s eyes. Some pets even enjoy chasing around flashlight beams as well.

Dogs and cats also love playing around in the yard. Try tossing around a ball and watching your dog chase after it. If you don’t have a specific dog ball, any ball will do. Dogs love playing catch and tennis balls work great. Stay away from balls that will easily pop and make sure you find a ball that they can carry in their mouths easily.
