Have you used dinner scraps to make a natural dog food recipe? I mean do you serve leftovers to your dog? If so I am sure your leftovers are scarce at times. You know like when you go out to eat. What do you do in such cases? One thing is for sure it takes planning to meet this type situation if you want to server natural dog food recipes. Once you realize how important your dog is to the family it is clear that you have to make an extra plate (or bowl). It has been an easy adjustment for me. Here is what I do.

I eat at least five times a day, but my dog eats only twice a day. This is in a normal day for me. In the morning I eat somewhat light, but I like to feed my dog, Nick during the late morning a medium size meal. Natural dog food recipes consist of meat, vegetables and a starch. Usually I have already prepared this meal and often times it is from the previous days dinner.

Here is what I do. I make dinner for Nick and myself. I make enough to serve Nick two meals. I put Nick’s natural dog food recipe in a storage container for the following day. Done! Now I just heat and serve.

Nick eats dinner around five or six. I eat at this time so this is ideal for me. Air tight containers which are freezer safe are use to store a Nick’s meals. With this arrangement I make two meals each time I prepare one dinner for myself. Nick gets great meals, because I always have natural dog food recipes with a variety of meats ready to go on a moments notice.

I use certain foods in natural dog food recipes. Foods like meat, vegetables and starches are used. More ingredients can be used, but their are dangers to watch out for. I have learned that some dogs do not respond to well to certain seasonings. For this reason different ingredients should be added to recipes one at a time. Boiling and roasting are how I cook dishes. I store the natural dog food recipes together by mixing the meat, veges and starch.

Their are several options I use when eating out. Due to my concern for the ingredients in take out food I seldom serve it to Nick. I will give Nick a burger minus mayo and other toppings.

I recommended other sources for natural dog food recipes. I think my simple strategy has saved me a lot of trouble and been vital in Nick’s good health.

I think we should all go the extra mile for our dogs.

Dogs love to be around their owners. They’re sorry to see them leave, and are always happy when they return. The bond a canine feels with his owner makes him unhappy when separated from him. This is normal. Some dogs, however, become especially agitated when they suspect their owners are leaving them. They may loudly vocalize their displeasure, or adopt destructive behaviors that manifest in several ways (e.g. digging, destroying furniture, etc.). This is called separation anxiety.

Below, we’ll explore why many canines become anxious whenever they are separated from their owners. We’ll also describe some of the common symptoms of the problem, and provide a few tips for addressing them.

Why Your Absence Might Cause Your Dog Stress

In nearly all cases of separation anxiety, there is some type of social dysfunction in the canine’s past. For example, he may have spent his early years in a puppy mill. Such dogs are usually deprived of socialization and human contact (aside from the rough treatment of the mill’s employees). When they receive both from loving owners, they gravitate toward them. When their owners leave, the possibility of losing these things causes them stress.

Another possible cause is that the canine has been exposed to multiple owners. Many dogs go from household to shelter to household to shelter, which prevents them from developing any degree of security in their surroundings. Because they fear being abandoned again, they become anxious whenever their current owner departs.

Your pet may also show signs of distress when you leave if he has experienced something traumatic in his past. For example, he may have been confronted with his previous owner having passed away, leaving him trapped inside the house.

Common Signs Of Separation Anxiety

Many behaviors that stem from separation anxiety are destructive in nature, but result from the dog trying to relieve the tension he feels. For example, suppose you left your canine inside your home to go to the office for the day. If he becomes anxious due to being separated from you, he might perceive the doors in your home as barriers. As a result, he may scratch them in an attempt to get through.

Other behaviors include urinating and defecating inside the home, persistent whining, salivating, and even diarrhea. Your dog may also pace back and forth to help relieve the stress he feels. When you arrive at home, he may not let you out of his sight, a behavior motivated by nervousness that you may leave him again.

Tips For Minimizing Separation Anxiety

The most effective solution for reducing your canine’s anxiety is to help him grow accustomed to your being away. First, avoid making a big deal about leaving and returning home. Ignore your dog fifteen minutes prior to leaving, and likewise when you return.

Second, give him something to chew on during the time leading up to your departure. This will help him form a connection between your leaving and something he enjoys.

Third, give your canine plenty of exercise. A single walk each day should be considered a minimum. Take more, if possible. Not only does this help him expend his energy, and thus keep boredom at bay, but it will also give him a chance to broaden his view of the world. This might encourage him to be less dependent on you, and less anxious when you leave.

Fourth, confine your canine to an area of your home for short periods to help him grow comfortable with being separated from you. Start with five minutes and gradually add more time.

The challenge in minimizing your dog’s separation anxiety is helping him understand that you will return to him, despite his experiences with others in the past. Keep in mind that modifying his expectations and gaining his trust takes time. With diligence, however, you can help your dog overcome his anxiety.

Dogs love to chase vehicles. Unfortunately, doing so often leads to their injury or death. In some cases, they chase an automobile until it stops, at which point they run into its back end, and damage their spine. In other cases, the canine is hit by another car.

Another problem is that drivers who see dogs lunging into the street are likely to brake quickly, or swerve into oncoming traffic. This poses a serious danger to other drivers and pedestrians.

In this article, we’ll take a closer look at the reasons canines chase vehicles. If you’re able to pinpoint the trigger, you’ll be more effective in curbing the tendency. We’ll then offer a few suggestions for discouraging the behavior in your pooch.

Understanding Why Dogs Chase Cars

Your dog is a natural predator, even if he doesn’t seem so. This can manifest in different ways. For example, if given the opportunity, he’ll stalk and chase small rodents. If he happens to corner one, he’ll rarely follow through in harming it. The reason? Because stalking his prey is a game for him. He has no intention of harming or killing the rodent.

The same is true when your canine chases people riding bicycles, kids on skateboards, or even other pets. It is the mark of a normal, happy, and well-balanced pooch socializing with others.

There are a few breeds that have a stronger predatorial sense than most. For them, the act of stalking and catching their prey is not a game. If they catch their prey, there is a good chance they will kill it. While this level of stalking is rarely directed toward vehicles, it is possible. It is also difficult to control.

Even though chasing cars comes naturally to a dog, the tendency can be discouraged before it becomes a problem. The key is addressing the behavior as early as possible.

Preventing The Problem Before It Starts

When your canine first shows signs of interest in passing vehicles, immediately call his name to capture his attention. Once he looks at you, and keeps his eyes on you, praise him and give him a treat. This trains him to understand that ignoring traffic and giving you his attention when you call results in a positive outcome. This will prove invaluable if you accidentally release his leash while traffic is passing nearby.

A lot of owners assume that because their pets only chase vehicles while behind a fence, the behavior poses no danger. In reality, it does since the tendency reinforces itself. Eventually, your dog may jump into the fence out of excitement, harming himself in the process. Thus, you should take the time to curb the behavior.

Curbing An Existing Tendency To Chase

If your canine has already developed a habit of chasing cars, you’ll need to first test his ability to come when you call him. This is critical. Everything revolves around his perception that you are the priority. Start by testing him in a quiet environment with no distractions.

After he consistently responds to your commands, take him to a park or similar setting that offers distractions without the danger of traffic. This will teach him to ignore other things, and focus his attention on you.

Next, test his ability to focus near semi-busy streets. Make sure you keep a tight hold on his leash to prevent him from bolting into traffic. Many dogs will respond consistently to their owners at home or at a park, but will lose their focus when presented with the opportunity to chase a car. Be wary.

Many canines have been injured or killed as the result of chasing vehicles. Train your dog to ignore traffic, and listen to your voice. It may one day save his life.

While sight is the predominant sense in humans, in canines the sense of smell is predominant. This isn’t by accident. Canines were designed to possess a dominant sense of smell. While the brain in humans is dominated by a large visual cortex, a dog’s brain is dominated by an olfactory (smell) cortex. Relative to the size of its brain, the olfactory cortex in a dog is forty times greater than that in man.

As a result of this, the sensory world of a dog is made up of dozens of pleasant and unpleasant odors that intersect and constantly change. We humans cannot detect the vast majority of these scents. The sensory world of humans is very different than that of a dog.

I have a golden retriever and a beagle. I enjoy making homemade dog treats for our two dogs. I have observed that when I toss out some of these treats into the yard, our two dogs don’t find them by sight. At first I thought it was strange that, even though the dog treats are in plain sight, both my dogs look for them by sniffing the ground until they find them.

Nevertheless, it’s only strange because we humans live in such a totally different sensory universe. If we had to find things just by smell, we would be virtually helpless. Similarly, a dog would be in a tough situation without his sense of smell. For a dog, to find food using smell rather than sight is the obvious thing to do.

Beyond Incredible: A Dog’s Sense of Smell

In fact, a dog’s sense of smell is around 50 to 100 times greater than is that of humans. Actually, canines can discriminate odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than can humans. Dogs are able to sense the presence of a tiny drop of blood diluted in two gallons of water. The more air flow there is outside, the more scents dogs will be able to detect.

This past January, I threw out a piece of bread crust on top of the snow for the birds that come to our bird feeders. Since there was plenty of bird seed in the feeders and spread on the ground, the birds ignored the piece of crust. Afterwards, we received more than a foot of snow, and the bread crust was completely buried as a result. In fact, I figured that the birds had eaten it.

Nevertheless, the next day when I let out my beagle to play, she happened to go near the bird feeders. She instantly caught the whiff of something, and soon her head was buried in the snow. I guessed that there was probably a rodent hiding down there or something. Yet, she soon came back out, displaying the crust in her jaws. She had instantly caught the scent of the crust merely from walking by it, although it was old and dry and was buried under a foot of snow.

Since that episode, we’ve made a regular game out of it. I hide my dog treats somewhere on our lawn. Then I turn her loose to find them.

Why Dogs Are Man’s Best Friend

Humans didn’t take long to appreciate the keen sense of smell that dogs have and to begin using it. For many centuries, men have used dogs in hunting. In more recent times, humans have used canines to find missing persons and escaped convicts. A scent hound and many other kinds of dogs can track a person’s scent even though it is several days old. A dog can follow the scent even after an ordinary rain.

In the past few decades, dogs have been trained to sniff out illegal drugs and explosives. A person can try placing the explosives or drugs in an airtight container surrounded by other strong odors. Regardless, a drug-sniffing dog will have no difficulty smelling the illegal drug.

Who knows? Someday some dog may save your life or protect you from injury. She may be your own dog. What’s more, some dogs have actually be able to detect malignant tumors in their owners. Therefore, treat your dog as the friend she truly is. Reward her with a a nutritious diet, plenty of attention, a good place to live, and lots of dog treats.

The writer, Robert Hamilton, is a pet lover who often writes about dogs. He enjoys making his own special dog food and dog treats at home. Why not try making some for your own special pet? Mr. Hamilton has posted a number of free recipes for dog treats on his website.

Just like their cousin the wolf, pet dogs are instinctively born to eat a diet of raw meat. In the pet industry, this is called a bones and raw food diet or BARF for short. The very first dogs, ancestors of today’s domestic canines, were capable predators.

Just imagine releasing your dog into the wild. After a period of adjustment, in order to survive, he would learn to hunt, kill and eat his prey.

Some animal researchers would assert that this is how dogs were designed to eat. Today’s dogs are domesticated and their masters may not always be fully aware of their pets true dietary needs. A dog’s daily food intake should include something more than just dry or canned dog food, but it should include raw meat and vegetables.

A raw diet consisting of raw meat provides your dog with the essential nutrition he needs to stay healthy. If your dog consistently ate a diet of raw meat rather than over processed or over cooked foods, then his immune and digestive systems would become significantly healthier.

There will be be a noticeable increase in the quality of your dog’s general health including his: skin, coat, breath, eyes, and teeth and gums. Also, your dog will be noticeably more energetic and develop a happier disposition.

As of late, animal researchers discovered that there is a higher incidence of diseases and other serious medical maladies that have developed in dogs and cats that has not been seen for years and years. Some believe that it could be the lack of essential nutrition that a raw meat diet could be providing.

By in large, most pet owners feel it’s enough to give their animals a diet of processed dry and/or canned pet food. Although your dog maybe getting full, you maybe starving your pet nutritionally because they’re not getting the right foods.

Some dog owners won’t even consider giving their dog or cat raw meat. They have a preconceived thought that raw meat may be tainted with parasites and bacteria. However one must consider that parasites and bacteria don’t adversely affect animals in the same way they do people. Thus one should consider at least looking into providing their pet a BARF diet.

Most owners want their pets to be the healthiest they can be. In that case, consider providing a variety of foods your dog would typically consume in the wild. Preparation is really not that hard to do – just make sure to provide your dog a selection of raw meat and vegetables every day. There are many recipes you can find if you’re willing to do some additional research on BARF dog food diets.

I have had dogs in my life for over 35 years, and in that time, have definitely experienced all the ups and downs that go along with having a pet. Despite the challenges that have come along, there is no question in my mind that dogs are truly “man’s best friend”. It’s just that with some, we have to work a bit harder to cultivate that friendship!

With our current dog, an eight year old miniature schnauzer, we have definitely faced a few challenges. Within a short time of him coming into our lives, we discovered that, while a smart and loving little guy, he also:

1. Growled and jumped on anyone who came to visit, and barked at absolutely everything he saw.

2. Absolutely hated going to the groomers to get clipped.

So what did we do? We did some research and spoke with our vet to discover some strategies and techniques that we could use to help make him a “good friend”. Here is how we resolved these issues.

1.	The barking/growling/jumping issue took some time because schnauzers, like all good little terriers are territorial, and are adamant about protecting that territory. Still, we could not scare away everyone who came to visit. So we tried all kinds of reward systems, squirting water, coins in a can, newspaper, just about everything. Nothing really worked. Finally our vet suggested a remote training collar, and after a lot more research, we tried the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer. One of the first things that we liked about it was that it has 9 stimulation levels so that we could start with the very lowest one first until we found the lowest one that was effective. It also has a tone-only training option providing more versatility. And we actually got the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, 300 yds., which has a 300 yard range, allowing us to train from a distance. The best thing about the Innotek Ultrasmart? It worked. Within a short period of time our little guy learned good manners and our friends were no longer afraid to come visit us.

2. Achieving a stress-free grooming experience each month has involved training as well…but it was training us, not our dog. We determined that by clipping him at home each month, he would be happier and more comfortable, so we decided to purchase a good set of dog clippers. We ended up choosing the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper due to the Oster reputation for lasting years, and because of the many positive product reviews stating that they worked smoothly, quickly, and quietly, all important qualities for us. And I have to say that we could not be more pleased with how well the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper has worked out for us and for our dog. Other than it getting warm at times, which we easily solved by cleaning and changing the blades, and using Oster Kool Lube, it has worked out great. It is amazing that such a simple product that is so easy to use has made such a difference in our little dog’s life, and once we learned how to get the cut right, it has been smooth sailing for us all.

Dog ownership should be a joy, and it truly can be, even if there is some work to be done to get to that point. For us, we had some help from the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer, and the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper. But it has been so worthwhile for us to have made the investment in our time to learn how to use these simple tools. Life with and for our little schnauzer is so much better, and as a result we have been rewarded with a happy little friend whose desire to please, affection and intelligence make him the best friend anyone could want!

Find out how your dog can learn to become a happy and well-mannered best friend. Learn more about the Innotek Ultrasmart Remote Trainer and the Oster A5 Turbo Clipper, read the reviews of the product from other happy dog owners, and determine if they are what you and your dog need.

Dog grooming should be a serious part of your dog care regimen as a responsible owner. The right grooming helps your dog both look and feel good. Grooming embodies several different areas. Here we take a glance at the mandatory of dog grooming.

One of the first things to do to guarantee your dog is groomed properly is to brush his / her hair. Not brushing your dog’s hair often enough could lead to caught fur which in turn could end up damaging the dog’s coat. Regular brushing can help stop that and maintain the coat.

you should not overdo the brushing my doing so each day. How frequently your brush your dog’s hair will rely wholly on the length of the coat. Dogs with longer hair usually require brushing more regularly as compared to those with shorter hair.

Another important part of correct dog grooming is a bath. All your cleaning and grooming efforts can only be of use if you give your dog a bath. With a bath, the coat and skin of your dog become clean. Any dust or bacteria get washed away. This means that the dog remains healthy.

Again, the frequency of your dog’s bath depends on the breed of the dog. While most of the dogs can do with one bath in a month if kept clean, some exceptions must be considered. The biggest exception naturally is that your dog had gone out and has come back all dirtied. Dogs need a bath with halfhearted water so watch out about the temperature. Plus, ensure that you get the proper dog shampoo for bath.

Another significant side of dog grooming is nail trimming. If your dog has long nails, he may be more in the power of various illnesses. This is mostly as the nails attract dirt and other bacteria.

Thus, trimming your dog’s nails repetitively is vital. your dog may resist getting his nails trimmed as they simply don’t enjoy the process. So you’ll need to take extra cares and care while doing the trimming. Try not to trim directly from the fringe of the nail as the slightest pain could make the dog very uncomfortable. Do use only professional dog nail clippers to trim your pet’s nails.

You do not want your pet to be a social embarrassment for you. it’s vital that you follow these essentials of dog grooming and make your pet look and feel good.

With each season your dog will need pampering and care accordingly. However the winter weather is probably the toughest on them and the hardest on them more inclined to illness. Here we look at some tips to keep your best pal freed from sickness and free to play about.

The cold breeze of winter is something which everyone wants to avoid. While the humans can wear wool, dogs have been gifted with a fur. However as deep winter sets in, this fur coat may not be enough. This is the time when you should either keep the dog indoors or make a provision for a proper kennel. If you can arrange for the kennel to be heated, sop much the better, if not do make sure that its in good condition and isn’t in the way of breeze.

Then there are accessory dogs like Chihuahuas and others like Whippets and Greyhounds which aren’t essentially meant for such climatic conditions and hence do not have thick enough fur. These dogs need proper winter clothing. You can order such clothing from a pet store or get them tailor made on order.

Dog booties are another way to protect your dog from cold. However, it’s a small tricky that your dog is going to enjoy being in them. These dog booties not just shield your dog’s feel but also ensure that your dog does not trip away on the ice. With Velcro taping, these dog boots are available in numerous color options.

If it’s's positively required to take your dog for a stroll this season, your pet may just be susceptible to painful paws. This occurs due to the fact that pets may occasionally have to walk across sidewalks and pavements which have been chemically treated to liquefy ice. These chemicals can make your dog’s feet dry, chapped and painful. The pain may also cause your pet to lick the paws which in turn could lead to gastrointestinal Problems. Therefore, it’s critical that you look after your pet’s paws throughout the winter season to prevent any health issues.

Arthritis is one condition that actually worsens during the winter season. So, you need to be more careful in this example, your pet is afflicted by arthritis. Try not take your dogs outside for icy walks. Keep him heated and supply protective clothing at every point. Also, be lighter on your dog during the winter season. Do not be loud when you are playing as you might end up hurting the dog.

Your dog needs care throughout the year, however, the required amount of attention and care increases significantly during the winters. By following the above tips, you will be in a position to protect and provide for your pet for any cold wave the season may throw up.

While a certain degree of training is necessary for any dog, many people refrain from having their pet trained because of comfort considerations relating to this member of the family. However not getting your dog trained might have more of a negative impact then a positive on your pooch.

Dog training isn’t aimed to transform your dog into some sort of machine who follows commands precisely and mindlessly. It is also not intended to make your dog a showpiece that may present tricks to amuse your friends. Dog training is about making the connection between you and your dog stronger. It’s also about training the dog the necessary rules that enable it to have an excellent time and also give you nice company.

Regardless of the size and breed of your dog, he wants coaching for sure. Without reference to the purpose for which you own a dog, you need to impart him appropriate training. It is important for your dog to know how he is meant to behave in different eventualities.Coaching helps your dog adapt to different environments and adjust to people comfortably.

Having a dog who is well trained could mean more relaxation and contentment for you. A trained dog won’t create any kind of bother. He will not tar down the furniture or eat away your shoes. A trained dog will not jump at your guests and make them uneasy. Instead, it will alert you about someone’s arrival and behave obediently. A dog who is trained will give you all the reasons to be happy instead of bothering you continually.

Training your dog also allows him to fend for himself and offers adequate protection from any imminent danger. An untrained dog might not be recalled when he’s wandered off. Such wanderings always carry a potential for danger which may cause significant wounds or death to the dog. coaching your dog will prevent him from taking off without your permission. And also allow you to guard and con troll his behavior in high stress eventualities.

Your dog’s quality of life also improves a lot after it gets trained. It learns how to go with and satisfy human companions. This helps your dog to live as a buddy, rather than being treated as a bother and getting ignored. Thru learning to behave to your approval, your dog is able to add to its own happiness.

To conclude, you should help your dog to be a good canine voter by giving it correct training without reference to the time and money the endeavor might entail. Your investment will certainly pay out in due course.

Dog jackets are available in every style and for every occasion. There are sporty striped jackets that are apt when you’re taking your dog for a mooch. Smart silk and corduroy jackets work best when you’re taking your dog out to a party.

As is the case with human females, the range of clothing for female dogs is actually wide. You can select from a number of lovable and wonderful dresses for your female dog. The design options are almost limitless. According to the latest trends in dog clothing, floral released dresses are for casual wear as are those covered with fur trims and laces. For the female dogs, the designers particularly recommend halter neck, spaghetti style, tank tops and such like.

For the male dogs, the fundamentals of style and fashion are served by smart looking dog shirts. Just like you can get stripes, checks, prints and other patterns to make shirt for human males, the same options might also be found in shirt options for male dogs. Again, the shirts are essentially formal wear. Specially made polo necks or round necks are available for causal wear.

One more must have in your pert’s closet is sweat suits. Sweat suits are of great utility for your pet. They supply an advantage of comfort. As well as that, sweat suits give a very sporty touch to your dog’s overall appearance.
