I’m sure most of you will agree with me when I say that our dogs aren’t anymore regarded as house pets-they are a valuable part of our families. I mean if by definition, a family is those who love you unconditionally; then definitely Fido qualifies hands down. Now, wouldn’t this merit a solid treat from you? If you want to know the best way how to do this, read on to find valuable elements that make up gourmet dog treats.

OK, you might be thinking, gourmet sounds expensive-how much will this set me back? We know if there’s any animal that’s worth it, it’s our faithful dog. The good news is that it’s not as pricey as you’d think it will be. Beautiful and delicious homemade dog treats can match any fancy gourmet baskets. All it takes is a little effort to ensure that your furry friend is the luckiest canine in the world.

These delectable treats are sure to make your pet the envy of every hound in the street. Be careful though with the ingredients that your creations may have. There are several food substances that are known to be toxic to the animal’s system.

Some examples of these ingredients are chocolates, caffeine, macadamia nuts, alcohol, onions and most parts of the tomato plant. There are more-download a more complete list online. Chocolates may seem harmless but they can trigger heart irregularities that, when combined with extremely vigorous exercise, can be fatal for canines. Liver also is good for them when taken in measured amounts. Too much of this organ meat though may lead to serious bone damage that must be avoided.

The good thing about making homemade dog treats is that you can manage the nutritional content that goes into your pet’s diet. You can put in some fruits but make sure you remove the pits. Take this opportunity to also include healthy vegetables in there. Make it interesting by sprinkling some cheese or spreading some spoonfuls of peanut butter on them.

Now, I completely understand that it’s not easy to refrain from spoiling your pet with these delicious treats, but refrain you must. It is critical that you maintain the animal’s weight as obesity is the culprit in many otherwise avoidable canine diseases. You must monitor his calorie count. Snacks should only be around 10% of his total diet.

You can find many great dog treat recipes on line. Take the time to choose which ones are the most natural and healthy for the animal. Make these biscuits extra special by utilizing unique cookie molds shaped like a bone, a dog’s profile, or even paw prints. Who knows, these spectacular gourmet dog treats may be so good you’ll find yourself in business supplying these to other excited pet owners.

Dogs-can you imagine your life without them? Make their day by making their favorite treats. Don’t know what it is yet? Well, what’s stopping you? Find a great recipe and create your canine masterpieces today!

It does not matter what kind of dog you have, all of them adore dog treats. They can be used for rewarding good behavior, training the dog, or just to give them a great treat to make them happy. Once in a while people can give out too many dog treats, which is not good for the dog. Don’t cut out the treats completely, just don’t overdo it or it may be an issue for the dog. If a dog is unfamiliar with a person visiting or something, if that person gives the dog a treat, it can help ease the situation. Read on for more info about the best dog treats and how they can be used.

There are a few things to avert. First do not give your dog table scraps. Not all human food is healthy for dogs and if you are uncertain, it is best to avoid all table scraps. Other items that you might want to avoid are ham bones, high fat biscuits or cookies, or other items high in fat.

Here are some of the best dog treats. Stuffed kong toys are great. These can take a lot of chewing and you can add things like peanut butter, or other treats inside them. Dog just love this. Braided bully sticks are another favorite treat of dogs. Some like them so much they do not them taken away by anyone. Jerky can also be a good treat. Look for ones that are natural or without many additives. You can break jerky into smaller pieces for your dog to help with training as well. An added bonus to treats is that if you have supplements or vitamins to give your dog, they can be hidden in the treats for easy consumption. Treats are excellent for practicing the leave it command as well. If they can resist their favorite treat, then training is going well for your dog.

Last, if you own a dog, they are certain to want bully sticks. They are a favorite of dogs, and they are also a natural way for them to be healthy about cleaning their teeth. Watch out for other types of treats that claim to clean teeth, as some may be bad to digest for the dog. Dogs love chewing the aromatic meaty taste of them and they are high in protein. Braided bully sticks are not advised to be the only food in their diet, but make a tasty treat and source of sustenance. These are a super alternative to the other treats for dogs. If the odor from them bothers you, braided bully sticks are also available in odor free kinds. Because the sticks are beef muscle, it is okay if swallowed by the dog, unlike other kinds of treats. Red barn is one popular brand that dogs think highly of.

While sight is the predominant sense in humans, in canines the sense of smell is predominant. This isn’t by accident. Canines were designed to possess a dominant sense of smell. While the brain in humans is dominated by a large visual cortex, a dog’s brain is dominated by an olfactory (smell) cortex. Relative to the size of its brain, the olfactory cortex in a dog is forty times greater than that in man.

As a result of this, the sensory world of a dog is made up of dozens of pleasant and unpleasant odors that intersect and constantly change. We humans cannot detect the vast majority of these scents. The sensory world of humans is very different than that of a dog.

I have a golden retriever and a beagle. I enjoy making homemade dog treats for our two dogs. I have observed that when I toss out some of these treats into the yard, our two dogs don’t find them by sight. At first I thought it was strange that, even though the dog treats are in plain sight, both my dogs look for them by sniffing the ground until they find them.

Nevertheless, it’s only strange because we humans live in such a totally different sensory universe. If we had to find things just by smell, we would be virtually helpless. Similarly, a dog would be in a tough situation without his sense of smell. For a dog, to find food using smell rather than sight is the obvious thing to do.

Beyond Incredible: A Dog’s Sense of Smell

In fact, a dog’s sense of smell is around 50 to 100 times greater than is that of humans. Actually, canines can discriminate odors at concentrations nearly 100 million times lower than can humans. Dogs are able to sense the presence of a tiny drop of blood diluted in two gallons of water. The more air flow there is outside, the more scents dogs will be able to detect.

This past January, I threw out a piece of bread crust on top of the snow for the birds that come to our bird feeders. Since there was plenty of bird seed in the feeders and spread on the ground, the birds ignored the piece of crust. Afterwards, we received more than a foot of snow, and the bread crust was completely buried as a result. In fact, I figured that the birds had eaten it.

Nevertheless, the next day when I let out my beagle to play, she happened to go near the bird feeders. She instantly caught the whiff of something, and soon her head was buried in the snow. I guessed that there was probably a rodent hiding down there or something. Yet, she soon came back out, displaying the crust in her jaws. She had instantly caught the scent of the crust merely from walking by it, although it was old and dry and was buried under a foot of snow.

Since that episode, we’ve made a regular game out of it. I hide my dog treats somewhere on our lawn. Then I turn her loose to find them.

Why Dogs Are Man’s Best Friend

Humans didn’t take long to appreciate the keen sense of smell that dogs have and to begin using it. For many centuries, men have used dogs in hunting. In more recent times, humans have used canines to find missing persons and escaped convicts. A scent hound and many other kinds of dogs can track a person’s scent even though it is several days old. A dog can follow the scent even after an ordinary rain.

In the past few decades, dogs have been trained to sniff out illegal drugs and explosives. A person can try placing the explosives or drugs in an airtight container surrounded by other strong odors. Regardless, a drug-sniffing dog will have no difficulty smelling the illegal drug.

Who knows? Someday some dog may save your life or protect you from injury. She may be your own dog. What’s more, some dogs have actually be able to detect malignant tumors in their owners. Therefore, treat your dog as the friend she truly is. Reward her with a a nutritious diet, plenty of attention, a good place to live, and lots of dog treats.

The writer, Robert Hamilton, is a pet lover who often writes about dogs. He enjoys making his own special dog food and dog treats at home. Why not try making some for your own special pet? Mr. Hamilton has posted a number of free recipes for dog treats on his website.

Many people wonder if you can make dog treats that contain peanut butter. I believe that this question is generally asked because several people have discovered that nuts are not good for dogs. It has been documented that various types of nuts like Macadamia and walnuts are intensely harmful.

Over time, some nuts often become toxic and the degree of phosphorus can build, causing both liver and bladder problems. In some cases these issues can even induce death. It is also imperative to note that some brands of chocolate might include nuts which may cause the same problems.

There is great information for those of us that like to use peanut butter as an aid in administering medication, rewarding our dogs with peanut butter dog treats or just sharing a taste on the tip of our finger. Peanuts are not really nuts! In fact, peanuts are really a species in the legume family (Fabaceae) to be specific. In other words, peanuts are actually a type of bean!

Like many things is life, there is good and bad in most things. To begin with you should dispense only a small portion since dogs may have food allergies just like humans. If you believe that your dog has an allergic reaction, discontinue feeding them peanut butter immediately. One of the best benefits of peanut butter is the certainty that it is high in protein, just keep in mind that it is also high in calories. Organic brands can be considered if you are concerned about preservatives and sugar.

To conclude, peanut butter has not been found to be bad to dogs. Since most products contain additional ingredients it makes sense to read the label. Although we think our dogs are almost human, they probably can’t make reliable decisions when it comes to their health. My dogs are happy since they like peanut butter dog treats.

All around the country, humane society shelters are filled to the brim with stray pets that are in need of a loving home. If you have any interest in getting a puppy or a full-grown dog, why not get one from your local humane society instead of putting money into the hands of puppy mills. You have the chance to rescue a puppy in dire need of a home and a loving family.

Beyond providing your new dog with all the basic necessities, it’s a lot of fun to pamper your pet with extras he or she will enjoy! These days you can get lots of different dog toys for hours of playful fun with your pet. They’ll help promote lots of healthy physical interaction to keep your pet active and help your pup or dog adapt more quickly to your home and your family.

Treats for dogs are a major necessity. Not only do they give your dog much needed nutrients but can be a fabulous training tool to instruct your pooch in domesticated life. If your dog happens to be intelligent, you can even use them to teach fun tricks for them to perform.

Dog toys and dog treats can all be found at pet stores, magazines or catalogs, on the web, or even in a local dollar store. There are many stores now opening up in many communities that gear all of their products to puppies and dogs. Mostly, shops of this kind will even allow you to bring the pet with you to shop along.

Travelling with pets is very common. Many pet owners love to have their pets accompany them along their travels and dogs love to travel. Many products are on the market to make this experience so much easier for you and your dog at the same time. Portable kennels, carriers, beds and pillows, tote bags for toys and treats, water bottles and dishes for food, and even treat bags for dogs can all be purchased to enhance travel with your pet.

Never forget to carry the pooch pick up bag when you travel with that special puppy or dog. Nevertheless, make sure that you are a responsible owner of a dog and come prepared to clean any mess that may be left from your fur ball of love. Your pet will be given many smiles when they see that his master comes ready to clean up the waste they so happen to drop at that moment. There are even hotels that will allow well-trained pets to enter in and stay at the hotel that are not even service dogs.

As your pet becomes an integral part of your family, you’ll probably find yourself visiting the pet store to buy pet gifts for your dog or pup as the holidays draw near, as well. It’s a fun way to celebrate the latest addition to your family and your home-and children particularly get a kick out of getting pet gifts to help spoil their new playmates. It’s always better to buy a pet toy specifically designed for pets to play with than to let your pup or dog chew on other things around the house that could be harmful to your dog’s health.

There’s nothing wrong with spoiling your dog or puppy and creating a pampered pet. In fact, it can bring you and your family a great deal of joy and even bring you closer together as a family unit! But bear in mind-before you select your next pet-how many pets there are in the U.S. and even your specific community that need a good home like yours. Visit your area humane society and choose to pamper a pet that really needs your love!
